Vocations Prayer

April 20, 2018

Message from Pope Francis ahead of Sunday’s World Day of Prayer for Vocations: “We are not victims of chance or swept up in a series of unconnected events; on the contrary, our life and our presence in this world are the fruit of a divine vocation!”

Standing Guard

April 19, 2018

A peaceful sight this morning. A pair of geese standing guard over the Sisters of Bon Secours in Marriottsville. It brought to mind  1 Corinthians 16:13:  Be watchful, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong.

MAKING TIME

April 10, 2018

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

J.R.R. Tolkien

ONE OF LIFE’S SECRETS

April 6, 2018

The secret to happiness is to live moment by moment.

-St. Gianna Molla

BEING SPIRITUAL

April 2, 2018

“True spirituality makes you loving and grateful, and forgiving, and patient, and gentle, and long-suffering. True spirituality breathes reverence into every act and deed.”

Marjorie Pay Hinckley, Small and Simple Things

WHAT YOU DO MATTERS

We can do no great things, only small things with great love.

LIVING YOUR TRUTH

March 22, 2018

If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

John 8:32

EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITIES

March 15, 2018

Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities.

Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.

Gloria Steinem

CHOOSE JOY

March 8, 2018

Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be all right, and the determined choice to praise God in all things.

Kay Warren, “Choose Joy Because Happiness isn’t Enough”

LISTENING FOR GOD

March 6, 2018

The voice of God within us is not the only voice of God.  Openness is not gentility in the social arena.  It is not polite listening to people with whom we inherently disagree.  It is not political or civil or “nice.”  It is not even simple hospitality.  It is the munificent abandonment of the mind to new ideas, to new possibilities.  God comes in every voice, behind every face, in every moment, deep in every struggle.  To close off any of them is to close off the possibility of becoming new ourselves.

Joan Chittister, OSB, Illuminated Life
