Inspiring prayers, quotes, and spiritual reflections.

THE WORK I DO

We are simply God’s servants, by whom you were led to believe. Each one of us does the work which the Lord gave him to do: I planted the seed, Apollos watered the plant, but it was God who made the plant grow. The one who plants and the one who waters really do not matter. It is God who matters, because he makes the plant grow. There is no difference between the one who plants and the one who waters; God will reward each one according to the work each has done. For we are partners working together for God, and you are God’s field.

– 1 Corinthians 3: 5-9

ALL FOR LOVE

Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest things right, and doing all for love.

– Saint Thérèse of Lisieux

YOUR SUCCESS

Keep a holy simplicity. Remain perfectly at peace, certain that God makes it His business to make you successful.

– St. Raphaela Maria Porras

FOSTERING PRAYER

Come back and quietly trust in me.  Then you will be strong and secure.”  Isaiah 30:15

Out of respect for each other in community, periods of silence and solitude are essential to foster prayer and union with God, to be open to the gifts of the Spirit and to the mystery of each other.

LEARNING FROM THE CHILDREN

Little children follow and obey their father.  They love their mother. They know nothing of covetousness, ill will, bad temper, arrogance and lying.  This state of mind opens the road to heaven.  To imitate our Lord’s humility, we must return to the simplicity of God’s little ones.

– St. Hilary of Poitiers

PRAYING TOGETHER

If the prayer of a single person is so powerful, much more so is the prayer that is offered with many other people.  The sinewy strength of such a prayer and the confidence that God will hear it is far greater than you can have for the prayer you offer privately at home.

– St. John Chrysostom

QUIET CHATS

All I need is a quiet corner where I can talk to God each day as if there were nothing else to do.  I try to make myself a tool for God.  Not for myself, but only for Him.

– St. Edith Stein

TO GIVE OF MYSELF

O my God! Teach me to be generous; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to toil and not to seek for rest; to labor and not to seek for any reward save that of doing your blessed will.

– St. Ignatius of Loyola

LIFE IN COMMUNITY; COMMUNITY IN LIFE

Where two or three are gathered together in my name I am in their midst.”  Matthew 18:20

Life in community is indispensable to all recognized religious.  Sisters are called by God to share the same mission and are sent by the Congregation, live together under the same authority, pray together, share the same family life and seek to witness to the love of Christ.

The Vocation of a Sister of Bon Secours is a call to the perfection of Christian love lived in an ecclesial community.  Responding to this call the sisters live in God and bring to the interior of their community as well as to those whom they serve, the resolute witness of their fidelity to Christ. “By this love that you have for one another, every one will know that you are my disciples…” (John 13:35)

By our community living, we bear witness to the reality of the eternal life to which God in His love calls all to share in the Trinity. “That all may be one as you, Father, in me and I in you that they may be one in us.” (John 17:22)

PRAYER BEFORE I SLEEP

Jesus Christ my God, I adore you and I thank you for all the graces you have given me this day.  I offer you my sleep and all the moments of this night, and I implore you to keep me safe from sin.  To this end I place myself in your sacred side and under the mantel of our Lady, my Mother.  Let your holy angels surround me and keep me in peace; and let your blessings be upon me.  Amen.

– St. Alphonsus de Liguori
